Isabella’s Cake & Food Shop opened their first shop in Pretoria 2008. It was an instant hit, and the concept has now grown to 10 shops, most of them in Pretoria but they are slowly making their way to other cities. I’m sure there are many more to come in the near future! Each shop is individually decorated, but all of them are a dream of black & white checkered tiles, pink-striped wallpaper, chandeliers and cute little details.
Isabella’s offers a tantalising range of indulgence from yummy breakfast omelettes (anything from classic smoked salmon & cream cheese to cool biltong, brie and figs) to fab salads (I’d love to try the warm roast leg of lamb with fresh mint, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, caramelised baby onions and rosemary & balsamic glaze!), sandwiches, quiches and much more. Oh, and I spotted some fabuliscious milkshakes on the menu: ferrero rocher; lindt white chocolate; and oreo being some of them.
But it is the cakes that really take center-stage at Isabella’s. Red, pink and black velvet, cheese cakes, chocolate mousse, carrot and fudge, cupcakes, macaroons… The list just goes on and on! For those with a really sweet tooth, there is a cake tasting on the last Friday of each month: “taste” as much as you like for R65!
