For the best pub lunch in Gauteng, look no further than Black Horse Breweries in Magaliesberg! The pub and brewery are located in an old stable building that has been skillfully upgraded to a 3-story dream of stone walls, wooden floors and impossibly large windows. Outside, there are plenty of tables under the Pecan Nut trees. But don’t be fooled! There may be a lot of tables, but if you don’t book ahead you may not ever get one. At least not on the weekend.
The restaurant serves delicious pub grub like juicy burgers and crisp pizzas, but also hearty home-cooked delights like roasted pork knuckle and lots of nibbly bits n pieces. Then there is, of course, their own craft beer: golden lager, red ale, honey porter and ginger beer. All made on site with natural spring water from the Magaliesberg. If you can’t make your mind up, go for a taster platter! We both went for burgers and red ale, and it was perfect!
The atmosphere is casual, and the waiters are friendly and attentive despite running most of the time. This place took me back to the days of lazy pub lunches in the UK; the home of the pub lunch! But with better weather of course! An absolute gem.
