I have finally (kind of) wrapped my head around this crazy, wonderful whirlwind of a year that 2015 was. I ticked off several long-standing bucket list items, achieved things beyond my wildest dreams and, heck, even managed to lose a couple of kg’s! It made me realise that there are so many things that I have still not blogged about, which I most definitely want to share. So expect an avalange of #laterblogs here soon 😉.
In the meantime, here’s a bit of what my fabulous 2015 entailed:
I started my Dream Job, as Product Manager for a tour operator
that focusses on sustainable, luxury travel and gives 100% of its profit to charity and development in South Africa.
I also landed this awesome part-time gig, doing web and social media for a fabulous family-owned Italian restaurant
. Quite frankly, it doesn’t even feel like work (I mean, all I’m doing pretty much is telling people about one of my favourite restaurants) and at times I get to eat the food!
All profits from Influence Tours go towards Township Roots, an NGO that helps children from poor areas do better in school
How can you not love a job that involves authentic, home cooked Italian food?!
I hiked more than ever. Through the beautiful Swedish forests and in the jungles of Madagascar. I also guided a lovely group of Swedes on a 3-week hiking tour that included Swaziland, Lesotho, Drakensberg and the Wild Coast. But the Big One was most definitely Fish River Canyon; 5 days through the Namibian desert, carrying all supplies and sleeping under the stars!
I completed my first (but definitely not my last) Ultra Marathon: the 56km Two Oceans.
I swam with whale sharks; a dream come true for me!
I discovered Reunion Island; a previous unknown destination that I plan to go back to this year to explore much, much more
I flew in a helicopter over one of the most beautiful cities in the world: Cape Town
I experienced true African wilderness on foot in Pafuri, an area in the northernmost part of Kruger National Park in the custody of the Makuleke tribe.
One of my best friends married the Love of Her Life, and another became a mum for the first time
I discovered the stunning Medieval town of Tallinn, and had some surprisingly good food
I ate so many amazing meals, from simple grilled fish on the beach to some of South Africa’s finest restaurants
I experienced wildlife encounters that most people only ever see on TV
And in between all of this, I did a whole lot of other things that were equally amazing.
Thanks 2015, it’s been awesome!
